Full Gas Bikes, Fox Valley, Stocksbridge

After weeks of counting down, the big day is finally nearly upon us! As Stage 1 of the Tour De Yorkshire kicks off tomorrow, we’re visiting our final Bike Library en route….

Launched this week, Full Gas Bikes are positioned smack bang in the middle of the finish line at Fox Valley. As Stage 3 draws to a close, the north Sheffield town of Stocksbridge will get to see the winner of the race first-hand. Tony Gibb and Beverly Lucas who founded the Bike Library, both have pretty impressive records themselves when it comes to cycling.

Beverly developed an interest in cycling at the age of 9 when she began racing for the UK's oldest Cycling Club in Rutland, and decided to head down the business road of the biking world. As a very successful multinational company leader (Felt Bicycles, Edge - now ENVE, Knight Composites), Beverly's global success combined with her technical knowledge means that she and Tony make for an ideal team.

Tony is the current World Masters champion, has been National Champion 17 times, and holds medals from the World Championships, the Commonwealth Games and World Cup. It's safe to say they both have a genuine passion for cycling!

Full Gas Bikes is actually a retail store situated within the Fox Valley shopping district, but they feel they can capitalise on the natural raise in awareness of cycling that the Tour De Yorkshire brings, and are keen to impress upon people the benefits of cycling as both a sport and a commuting option.

The advantage of Full Gas Bikes being a bicycle shop means they always have trained staff on hand to keep the donated bikes in tip top condition. Their plans include maintenance sessions where they can teach participants of the initiative to take care of the bikes, and they also want to involve local school children in an attempt to encourage cycling as an activity as well as a means of getting to school. They are keen that it become a family activity in the long-run for bike borrowers, and wish to spread the word about Bike Libraries throughout the cycling industry by asking their suppliers to provide some of the basic equipment needed.

With them only launching this week, they are keen to receive donations so be sure to look out for them at the finish and contact them to borrow or donate bikes!
