Welcome to Yorkshire have today announced that Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries will be the naming partner for Stage Three of the Tour de Yorkshire on 1st May.
Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries is a ground-breaking initiative supported by Yorkshire Bank, Welcome to Yorkshire and Cycle Yorkshire that has the clear goal of providing every child in Yorkshire with access to a bike.
This latest partnership is a continuation of Yorkshire Bank's commitment to cycling across the county and reinforces their current sponsorship of the Tour de Yorkshire and the men's sprinter's jersey, which was won last year by Team Sky's Lars Petter Nordhaug, who went on to win the overall title.
In 2016, the winner of the third stage, which starts in Middlesbrough and finishes in Scarborough, will be awarded the Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries jersey, while the overall winner of the men's race will be awarded the Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries winner's jersey.
Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries will be promoted across the three-day event and on Saturday 30th April, a children's parade will take place in Doncaster using the same finishing line as the professionals.
Yorkshire Bank will also have stands at each of the race's start and finishes offering a range of entertainment including face painting, smoothie bikes, balloon modelling and caricatures for spectators to take part in.
Following Yorkshire's historic Tour de France Grand Départ, Yorkshire Bank partnered with Welcome to Yorkshire to create the country's first ever network of Bike Libraries.
Since then 22 Bike Libraries have been established throughout the county, with more planned to be announced in the future. 3,500 bikes have been donated so far through 35 Donation Stations allowing more than 10,000 opportunities for people to ride a bike, further enhancing Yorkshire's growing reputation as the place for cycling, nurturing young talent and creating a sustainable legacy for the future.
Helen Page, Propositions and Marketing Director at Yorkshire Bank, said:
"Following the success of the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire, we're delighted to continue our support for cycling in Yorkshire. The increased involvement of the Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries at the final stage of the race is a fantastic opportunity to help improve access to cycling across the county."
Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said:
"Yorkshire Bank's dedication to improving cycling across the county is incredible and I am thrilled to have them on board for a second year.
"Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries have given thousands of children the chance to ride a bike so they are a perfect fit for our race, which builds on the legacy of the historic Yorkshire Grand Depart of the Tour de France."
Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries will have a vehicle in the Tour de Yorkshire caravan which will travel ahead of the men's race on Stages One and Three, and between the women's and men's races on Stage Two, ensuring that Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries will have a presence throughout.
